Sustainability

Sustainability in a metalworking shop is less about grand claims and more about a series of practical decisions.

Our CO2 Impact report

Our workshop runs on solar power, which significantly reduces the environmental impact of daily operations. Wherever possible, we use recycled materials instead of newly produced stock.

Materials sourcing also takes supply chains into account. Even small changes in suppliers or materials can significantly reduce the emissions associated with transporting raw materials.

Fuel is another area of ongoing improvement. Traditional blacksmithing relies heavily on coal. Our forge is gradually transitioning toward charcoal and other lower-impact fuels.

Finally, durability plays an important role. A tool that lasts for decades and can be repaired or maintained will almost always have a lower lifetime impact than something designed to be replaced.

In practice, sustainability in the workshop means continually asking whether a material or process can be improved without compromising the quality of the tools.
